I don't think our kids could be any more excited to send valentines to school for their friends. I remember always looking forward to all those fun holiday parties in school. Since our kids LOVE ring pops....

they asked for a whole slew of them to give to their friends at their class valentines day party. So I made these little "3 RING Circus" valentines to use on the ring pops.

I printed them on card stock, cut, and the kids attached them to the ring pop with tape. I included the free printable for you as well here. Happy Love Day!

DIY Glitter Wall Paint

            Is there really anything more girlie then glitter or pink? My daughter didn't think so when she helped us pick out her room color. One of our old neighbors told me about adding paint crystals into your paint for a glitter effect. Once we moved in to our new place we got started working on our daughters room, and decided we should give it a try.

       I was initially a little worried about the glitter. I thought it may flake off and leave a mess on the floor. Seriously, who wants to clean up glitter?! Trust me it doesn't come off! Somehow it shines and shimmers without coming off, even after you rub and rub like the dickens to "make sure". The paint department at Lowe's said if we ever repaint that room in the future, all we had to do was just prime it first. No crazy sanding involved at all! Can you imagine the mess! We are so in love with it I can't imagine ever repainting. Although, I am sure a day will come when a pink room with glitter isn't "cool" anymore. Until then I am going to soak up every minute of our little princess while she's still young enough to enjoy this stuff.

           We picked up 3 little packets of the paint glitter/crystals. So far the only place I know that carries them is Lowe's. The packaging says you only need one or two per gallon of paint, but since we were painting the room a very light pink we wanted to make sure it would sparkle, so we went with 3 of them for extra shine. So glad we did. I would recommend 3 unless you are using a dark color of paint. (just in case you were wondering... they also sell other colors of the glitter/crystals) We liked the silver best for this project.

          We mixed our little hears out. You want to add in a little in at a time, otherwise all the paint crystals will sink to the bottom. Ben used a mixing attachment he has on his drill and it worked wonders. The crystals stay suspended in the paint for sometime. After a few days though, they will sink to the bottom of the paint can. The color we selected for her room was Valspar Apricot Fluff.

The picture doesn't really capture the sparkle effect as much as you see in person. It sparkles a fair amount during the day with all the natural light that comes in her room, but at night when its dark it shimmers SO much. We just love it. It was almost impossible to capture the glitter effect with the camera, but here is a little of what it looks like. It really shines so much more then the picture shows. It does go on very evenly and is such a fun treatment to any girls room!

Then we added a vintage looking chandelier to her room which makes it all the more girlie.

Once we put the last few finishing touches on the room we'll post a room reveal. If you try the paint crystals on a room or project we would love to see it! Happy painting!

DIY Pottery Barn Over Sized Pencil

I fell in love with this pencil I saw in the Pottery Barn catalog! There is always something in between those pages that triggers a project or two. Remember this...

I so wanted one to go in our kids playroom! The wood on the right side of the picture below is what we started with. Then the left side shows what it looks like after a few cuts on the saw to give it that pencil shape. So sorry for the picture quality, the pictures of the process were taken with my phone camera. Man, I need to remember to have a better camera on hand. Maybe next time! Hopefully this still helps some though.

We painted it, and decided to recycle a long asparagus can to use as the pencils metal casing. Ben nailed the can down for stability, and to make it look more like a real pencil.

Here's an idea of the size of it compared to a normal pencil.

I cut some vinyl with my silhouette and walaaa, and over sized Pottery Barn inspired pencil to hang in our kids playroom.

Inch by Inch...

Today I want to share these growth charts we made for a craft show, these collapsible charts were inspired by this post. They have been a little time consuming to make with the painting and glazing, but well worth it. We also did all the tick marks by hand, and I love how it turned out. Then I applied all the vinyl I cut from my silhouette. The pictures do not do them justice at all.

These growth charts make me want to soak up all the moments even more that seem to go by so fast when you have kids. I love to see them grow into the amazing people they are meant to be, but my heart just melts to see them grow quite so fast. We would love to see any projects you use to capture your kids as they grow.

I think I'm addicted...

Hello group, my name is Jenn and I am addicted to iron on vinyl! It seems like most of my project these days involves my trusty iron. Here are a few of the things we whipped up lately.

We put names on all the stockings. The kids got SO excited about this one.

I spruced up one of my daughters old sweat shirts.

We made a pillow for the kids Great Grandma to use in her garden chair outside. The chair has hand prints from all the grandkids painted on it, that's what inspired our design.

Made a shirt for an upcoming activity for the youth of our church.

I also made a shirt for Mr. Build It, who loves to golf, and big putts.

        I really can't seem to get enough of this stuff. Its fun and super easy. Anyway, we hope your having fun getting your craft on as well! Have a great weekend and happy crafting!

Pottery Barn Inspiration

Ok, so every time the Pottery Barn Kids catalog comes, so many projects get tacked on our "to do list". I could sit and soak up every page of cuteness for hours. It's my favorite thing to open the mailbox and find, for sure!

I saw these and just knew they would make such fun art centers for our nieces for Christmas.

We loved those! We thought we would tweak them a little and make them magnetic boards so the girls could switch out pictures easier, I am not big on having push pins in kids bedrooms. Especially younger kids. It makes me so nervous someone will end up eating one! Maybe its just me, but that's what inspired our little change to them.

We think they turned out A-ok, I scooped up some magnets at Hobby Lobby that matched the girlies personalities and room colors. We loved seeing their reaction when we did our gift exchange with them. Hopefully they will get lots of great use out of them!

       So sorry friends for the hiatus! We are alive and well. Our family moved right before the holidays and its been a whirlwind around these parts unpacking, gearing up for Christmas, and doing oodles of home projects. I can't wait to share those with you!! So now we are back in the groove for more regular scheduled programing!


         We saw the most clever Grandparents chair on Pinterest. Pretty amazing, right!

       Well for Christmas Mr. Build It made one for my in laws! They loved it, so do the itty bittys. Hopefully there will be many amazing memories for them rocking away together.

    I wish we had taken more pictures of the "process" but things were so busy for us this is all we ended up with.

   We converted a rocking chair we had for sometime but never used. It was practically new considering the amount of use it got. So we added the side arms to it and before we knew it....It was done.

This time of year is so fun, I love fall! A few weeks before school started I went through the kids drawers to see what still fits and all that back to school clothes hoopla. Well, somehow I found this great orange sweat shirt that still fits our little man. Totally warm and comfy, just plain. So, since my love for all things iron on vinyl is in full swing I knew I had to spruce this bad boy up a bit. This is what we ended up with.

Motherhood...

Motherhood is amazing, and blissful, and some days down right hairy! I read a post over here, awhile ago about those exact moments I think we all have as mothers. Some days boil over with interruptions and mayhem. Shawni included a quote that I have been madly in love with ever since. It may in fact, be one of my very favorite quotes! It helps me remember that on those days where there are interuptions peaking at me from every corner, and yet nothing seems to be getting done, its alright. It helps me remember to soak up every ounce of my children while I can because they seem to grow up way to fast! Those joyful moments, mixed with all that mayhem and interruptions of life and motherhood, make this mortal journey sweet, and perfect.

Hair Book

I have this super creative neighbor Tiffany, she's seriously creative! Anyway, she shared a fabulous idea with me the other day, this totally didn't come from my noggin. She made a little book for her daughter chock full of hair styles. Remember when your sitting in the salon and flipping through those hairstyle books. Well, its kinda like that, but for your little princess. She would have her daughter look through her hair book and pick out her hairstyle she wanted to wear that day. Genius! I thought this is so clever, and its going to save oodles of time in the morning. I love that part!
Anyway, I got so excited and had to make one. So, I sat down with my little princess and we searched a few of our favorite hair sites: She Does Hair, Cute Girl, Hairstyles, and Cute 2 Try Hair Do's . We printed out a few of our favorite do's. It was hard to narrow down so many cute hairstyles! We used one of those $1.00 photo albums you can grab at Walmart or Target to stash the photos in. Then I made a front cover for the album.

Hospital Table Runner

Hey bloggy friends! I sure hope you had a great July 4th with your family. I know we sure did! Nothing quite like a July 4th party to get you feeling summery. Today I have such a fun treasure to share with you, its actually a GREAT idea my sister in law, Denise came up with. She's always filled with fabulous ideas! Her Grandfather is going into the hospital for surgery and will be staying a few days past his procedure to recover. She wanted to make him something to brighten his spirits and the hospital room! Her idea is a table runner for the room with pictures of all his grand kids. Pretty sweet, huh! I knew you'd love it. This could also be a great idea for anyone that has loved ones in a nursing home or just far from home.

Here's what she used to get started...
Material of your choice for the squares and backing
Material for the trim
Dark iron on photo paper
Go through your online photos and pick your favorites
Batting
Thread to match

Next cut out 6 rectangles out of your fabric (9"x14") This will allow you to print the pictures large enough for the quilt.

Cut strips to the length of your squares and sew them together. You can make the trim as wide as you feel looks best.

This is what the top will look like when your done sewing the trim on. Next head to your printer and follow the directions on the iron on paper and print all those cute photos you picked out.

Make sure you have all your iron on pictures completed and in place. Then cut the batting and material for the back to size, and sew it all together.

Now you have a heartwarming table runner for your loved one!

Love More...

I have read oodles of Linda Eyres books on parenting. When I came across an essay she wrote, I knew I just had to read it. The article talked about how easy it is to "love more" when things are going wonderfully. When things start to get a little hairy that's when its not always easy to do.
I thought about all the daily experiences I have as a mother. I thought about how easy it is to get frustrated when my two year old dumps an entire container of lemon aid mix (82 oz) all over the kitchen floor twice, or when the fussing starts right as I am trying to prepare dinner.Those are the moments as a mom I needed that little reminder to love more, and exercise a bit more patience. So I decided to make this little number to help with that. Since making it, I have also seen the seen the kids exercising a "love more" attitude also, and that's brought such a smile to my heart. It really has brought that sense of peace every time I see it.

I made the sign using the square flourish frame from the Silhouette shop, and the font is Pare, I think?

End of the school year shirt

It's been awhile....My time to craft these days have been very slim. Hopefully, now that school is two days away from wrapping up, things will start to calm down, I sure hope anyways! I did manage to whip up a shirt for the last day of school for my little fella. I found this cute idea over at Tip Junkie

When I went to make this all I had handy was iron on transfer paper for dark shirts. That wasn't what I needed seeing as the shirt we were going to use was white. I decided to give it ago anyway and it worked. Its nice to know the dark Avery iron on transfer papers will work on both light and dark shirts! I love "accidentally" finding this stuff out.

Welcome Summer....

Hope everyone had a great Memorial Day weekend filled with family, partys and oodles of fun! After the weekend came to an end I finally carved out some time to sit down and focus on gearing up for the summer for our kiddos. I can not tell you how glad I am summer is here and the school year is coming to a close!! I am so counting down the days till the kids are out!

I sat down and made a daily schedule for our summer break to cram in every once of fun. We also sat down talked to the kids about making their summer goals. We have done this yearly ever since I read the book "The Parenting Breakthrough" by Merrilee Boyack. It really has made me spring into action and turn our summers into more productive times to encourage goal setting for our kids. They are just leaping with joy at the end of the summer when they look back and see all the things they have accomplished. Its wonderful. If you haven't already read this book, its a great book to put on your summer reading list, I am sure you'll love it as much as we do. I'd seriously bronze it if I could!

End Of The Year Teacher Gift

      I am WAY excited for summer, I think it's because this time of year is so busy with all the end of the year rig-a-ma-roll. But man I am always so happy to get my kids all to my self during the summer so we can exhale a bit, especially from all this end of the year craziness. Are you guys totally feeling all the hustle and bustle also?

     This book called "Hooray For Diffendoofer Day" by Dr. Seuss (its a book he started to write before he passed) it's one amazing book!! Its about a teacher that cultivates creativity and inspires individual thinking. It really is a must have for any amazing teachers out there! I ordered this book for Teacher Appreciation week. Guess what...It didn't come in time, go figure, so I had to whip up something else. Of course it did come a day after I needed it. Oh well, it will make a great end of the year gift. The book really is a must have for any fabulous teacher or classroom library. I really think it would also be good to read to kids before the SOL testing as a bedtime story. The book talks about a really important test the all students must take. Really cute read, total must have!

Car Organization:Sunglass Holder

Hello ladies, this weekend I got a few hours to myself...what did I choose to do with it you might ask? Sew of course! I totally should have been doing laundry or cleaning, but really, that's not nearly as fun! So, I whipped up a car sunglass holder to help keep us more organized. Our kids LOVE sunglasses! We really did need something to stash our specs in. We use to keep all their little sunglasses stowed away in my car console, I always hated passing the glasses back to them while I should be driving. This helps so much, they love being able to get them when they need them and feel more independent. Plus, they think its cool to sit in front of this, so I just had to make something to put on the other seat. Anyway, here's the skinny on how I made it...

Materials
(4) 12 1/2 " x 8" of material for the bag
(2) 12 1/2" x 8" of fusible fleece to help give the bag some padding
(2) 12" x 5" of material for the straps
a few scraps of double stick fusible webbing for the sunglass and lens applique
Ruffle-mine was 3" wide. Then for the length, you want to measure the 3 sides of the bag and double it. (I only had a little material to work with so I had to do my ruffle in 3 sections) normally you just double the total length of all the sides.
2 small pieces of sewable velcro
thread
sunglass applique pattern, you can download here
(1/4 seam allowance used throughout)

First print off the sunglass applique (see the free printable download above) Print it on cardstock, cut out the sunglasses and lenes.

Then, attach the fusible web on the wrong side of the fabric you will be using for your glasses. Trace the sunglasses out on it. Cut it out. Do the exact same thing for the lenes. Peel off the super thin film on the webbing and iron the lenses to the glasses. Then remove the thin backing on the glasses and iron the glasses on your main fabric

Next iron on a piece of your fusible fleece to the back of the your main fabric. This will help give it some padding. It will also act as a stabilize when you sew around the applique.

Sew around the lenses with a zig zag stitch then move on to the glasses. I used a really tight zig zag stitch. Now, you will want to take the applique you just finished, flip it over and iron on the back peice of fabric to the webbing.

Grab your two remaining pieces of main fabric and sandwich the webbing between them and iron them together.

Now on to the ruffle. You will want to fold your material in half, right side facing out. Then go here and check out this tutorial on how to complete the ruffle. They show you how to make one by hand (which is what I did) or using the machine.

Once you've completed your ruffle, pin it to your fabric with the clean folded ends towards the sunglass applique. Then lay the backing on top and sew up the 3 sides of the fabric.

Remove the pins and flip it inside out. Whalaaa, almost done... Now,take the opening of the bag and fold the seam down a bit and sew the raw edges of the bag closed.

Now onto the straps...

The last step....Take your straps, fold them in half wrong sides facing each other. Sew up all the way along the edges. Flip your material back over to the right side.

Next, tuck just a little of the raw edges of the end of the strap inside, and place the velcro on top. Sew the velcro on. This will also sew the raw edges closed. Do the same thing on the other strap. Keep in mind the placing of the velcro and how they two pieces will meet. For example: One of the peices of velcro should be attached on the front side and the other on the back side (seam side) of the material as the above picture.

Then take the other end of the strap, fold raw edges inside a bit and sew them to the sides of the bag. I choose to hand sew them so my footer would not accidentally sew over the ruffle.

Whoot Whoot all done! Now time to add the sunglasses for safe keeping.

Pottery Barn Knock Off: Home Organiazation

               Once I set my sights on this fun wall organization unit from Pottery Barn Kids in an old catalog I had stashed, my heart started to flutter a bit. I was totally in love! Its a cork board, chalk board and peg board all in one. I thought this little number would be perfect to help keep our family on the up and up!

    I love all things Pottery Barn, who doesn't really? But, I knew we could make this for far less and customize it to our taste.

Here's what we used to make the wall unit:
Paint
Hooks and clips for your peg board
Ply Wood-32" wide x 5 feet tall
5 separate peices of glass measuring 11x17
(if you have old frames sitting around like we did, snag the glass out of it)
Letters for the days of the week- (we just did the weekdays)
Peg board-16" wide x 5 feet tall
Fabric and batting both measuring 16" wide x 5 feet tall
5 sheets of 11x 17 paper
Trim-1.5" wide x 10.5 feet long for the vertical inner trim (need 10 of these)
         2" x 4 feet for the middle inner rows (need 4 of these)
         2 1/4" x 4 feet for the outter top and bottom trim (need 2 of these)
         2 1/4 x 5 feet for the side outter trim (need 2 of these)

    First we laid down a large piece of ply wood cut out the trim peice. I wanted trim around ours to give it a more finished look. It is about 5 feet tall. I know, I know, its huge, but man it works like the dickens to help keep us organized. This has become our very own mother board! Literally.

We painted all the trim and peg board black. Then, once that was dry, I laid down a thin layer of quilt batting all the way down the first column. Then I covered the batting with fabric I had left over from a previous project. Use a staple gun and secure the fabric and batting in place. Next, you can either cut out your own letters with a scroll saw (depending on the font you want) for the days of the week, or buy them at Michaels or any other craft store. Nail them in place over the fabric.
Next. I spray painted an old vegetable can black. Then, I Mod Podged a scrap of fabric onto it. We use this to hold all our dry erse markers for the dry ease board. We ditched the chalk board section on the original PB wall unit ,and in its place is a dry earse section. We then drilled a hole in the back of the can so it hangs nicely on the peg board hooks. I also spray painted some of the peg board hooks and clips black also.

Then we wanted to recreate the fun book rack PB had hanging on their peg boards.

This book rack has been so SO helpful in keeping all our library books in one place. Also, see the notebook in the picture that says "Back to School Binder" its a life savor!! The notebook has sections in it for each child. Its great to stash papers for the school year in it, from class schedules to field trip information. Its wonderful. You can download a copy of the notebook cover over at My Computer Is My Canvas that's where I found it and read more about it. That alone has kept us so organized, I love it.

On the original PB wall unit we decided to ditch the chalk board section they had and opted to use dry earse boards, as I mentioned earlier. For that we just laid down white paper (11x 17) then covered it with glass. I had some glass from some old frames and we also ended up having to buy just a few others at Michaels. Once the glass is in place, nail down all the trim. The glass stays in place perfect becasue of the trim, it helps to keep it safe and sound. I think it turned out pretty great. Its big and huge and keeps us SO organized. Thanks for the inspirations Pottery Barn Kids!

Happy Easter

             I love the newness of spring! Man, I am so glad Easter is just peaking at us from around the corner! This is such a fun month for our little family, its filled to the tipy top with joy! A side from Easter, which is one of my very favorite holidays, we also have my sons birthday, and then the Mr. and I get to celebrate our 10th anniversary later in the month! I can hardly wait!

      Anyway, I was getting some cupcakes ready to take to my sons class for his birthday, and made some cupcake toppers to mark the occasion. I also whipped up some Easter ones for another family FUN-ction! More on that later.

      I wish I could post some pictures of these beauties on the cupcakes. They look darling. But, my poor camera is currently in need of some serious love and camera CPR. Hope you enjoy the printables and a very joyful Easter!

DIY Barbie House

Hey ladies, hope your week is going great so far! Today I wanted to share the DIY doll house the hubs made our little princess. This barbie house gets SO much use. She plays with it all the time, it made all the hours making it pure heaven to see her enjoy it. Even her brothers have used it much to her protest! Some where along the lines they decided its cool for cars to roll off the second story and the decks. It's funny to see how different they place with it, I love it!

It started out from a tree from my in laws property. They have 26 acres. The tree was cut down, dried, and ran through a saw mill they have. Then I got busy figuring out a fun layout, and the hubs started out on the build.

Then he added roof shingles that were left over from when we had to redo our roof forever ago. Its nice to use what you already have. Plus, it helped it look like more authentic.

This part of adding the siding piece by piece was definitely the longest! I know he thought at one point he was never going to finish this part, but it was ohhh so worth it!

My friend told me about a small family owned carpet store that would give you free carpet squares they didn't need. So off I went. We ended up with such varied colors but she loves it.

It's hard to tell from the picture but its about 5 feet tall.

The hubs even made stairs leading from the garage to the house, cause that will totally make life easier for Barbie to get in the house when she has on those high heels of hers!

So that's our DIY barbie house. It hardly cost a thing, which makes it even more fun. We used our in laws amazing wood from their property, (thank you, guys!!) got free carpet squares and only had to buy a bit of paint.

I must admit the boys aren't the only ones that sneak and play with it. (wink wink)

Post Script: We have had lots of request for the plans for the Barbie House. We didnt use any specific "plans" to make it. We really based the room size around the carpet squares we got. But here are the measurments of the house. Hope this helps some. We would love to see pictures if any of you make one.

Tote Bag

Don't you just love it when you are right in the thick of a project and realize, this project is really going to stretch ya. That was this tote for me. Its always so nice to learn new things! The pattern, actually it was more like a list of instructions, was great in the fact that it gave you tons of measurements for different sized bags. Somehow though, I got myself all turned around with mixing the measurements. Oops, hate when that happens. Thank goodness my sweet hubby came in and helped me work through all the instructions. But, after everything was said and done, I love it. I am so in love right now with black, white and pink.
Now that this is done, I realized that this would make one fun baby shower gift, filled to the brim with diapers and baby goodness. It has some pretty fun pockets on the inside that would come in handy for all those binkies and bottles. I am using mine though for a church bag. I made the largest size on the pattern, so if my 2 year old gets unruly in church, I could put him in the tote and carry him right out, I kid, but yes it really is that big. It really will be perfect for all our Sunday gear. I got the pattern from a local store some time ago, but I noticed on the pattern they also have an online store here.

Plastic Grocery Bag Holder

Do you always have those plastic grocery bags everywhere? I sure did. Love them, but man they were getting unruly. I was tickled pink to discover I had just enough fabric from a previous project to make a holder to stash them in. Don't you just love it when that happens! This truly was the best nap time project ever. It took maybe 15 minutes to whip this up once the material was cut. It is so nice to now have something to tame those bags and make storing them cute.There are a ton of tutorials out there on these darling numbers, but I found this one over here most helpful, so simple and easy breezy. Here's the finished project.

Boys Shirt Spruce Up

Can I just say I love me some iron on t-shirt transfers! They are so fun and super easy to cover up any stains or just add some life to a plain shirt! Love it! Here are two I whipped up.

I was watching TV with my little fella and a wonder bread commercial came on and a little inspiration was born....or shall I say bread. :)

He is pretty Wonderful!

Then I made this number.

Bathing Suit Cover Ups

     I know, I know, its only the first part of spring, I shouldn't be dreaming of summer already, huh? But we just got back from an amazing trip to the beach and I just can't seem to help myself!

      Before we left for our trip it got me thinking... I knew I was going to need something this summer to help free up my hands. Somehow, I always end up carrying everyones towels, goggles, snacks and countless other pool goodies. I either needed to grow more hands or come up with a better system.

    I decided to turn their towels into pool cover ups. I made them so they can put them on all by themselves. Even my two year old. Then, this was sure to free up some of the goodies I always end up carrying for everyone. Plus, this would keep them warm after getting out of the pool. I made a wrap for the girlies, and a towel cape for the boys.

Here's all the stuff your going to need...
A beach towel (if its a larger one you can probably get two wraps out of one towel depending on the age
of the girls and size of the towel) (For the boys cape-I used the entire towel for one cape.)
Fabric to make binding (or you can but it premade)
Thread
Velcro-the kind you can sew

       We will start with the girls wrap. Trim your towel. Use your little ones as a guide. If your kids are younger and you have a large beach towel, you should be able to make two of these from one towel.

       Now that you cut your towel, you have lots of frayed ends that will need some serious binding. You can purchase premade binding at Joanns. I had lots of white fabric and just made mine. Then, you want to sew it on. I totally consider myself a beginner sewer for sure! But, you can also skip this step if you wanted to. You could easily just fold the towel edge over and sew a seam up. But, if you do choose to add the binding, here is a fabulous tutorial here . I made mine a little wider then what was mentioned in her tute because we are working with thick towels and I thought it would look a little better. I am still totally learning, but it was fun to try something new.

        Then use some of the scrap towel from when you trimmed it up, to make the two straps. Again, the best thing here is to use your child as a guide on the width and length of your straps. Turn the strap inside out and sew down the open edge.

Then attach them to the wrap and sew them on.

The straps look like they pinned on uneven, but one side of the wrap is longer since that wraps around her on the inner part of the wrap.

Next, have your little princess try on her new wrap so you can pin the velcro in place. I placed my velcro on the top part of the wrap. Then sew it on.

Now, you are done and have a fabulous little summer wrap for your little Miss!

Now on to the boys...I knew I needed something for my little fellas, so I had to make a super hero towel cape for them. I got all the sizes and patterns over here at The Long Thread

I decided to fold the towel in half and then cut the pattern out.

Now that its cut out, you will want to add the binding we talked about above.

Finally, sew on the velcro. Now your little man has a super hero towel cover up for the summer.

Sorry this is not the best picture, its hard to get a two year old to stand still for a photo op!

Now the kids will have fun with their new threads and you just scored yourself less to carry at the pool since the kids will be wearing their towels! I would love to see any of the cover ups you make! Happy Sewing!

Closet Organizing

I am knee deep in some serious spring cleaning! I love the newness that comes with this season. It seems to make all the spring cleaning easier somehow.

Our kids closet is in desperate need of some hooks to hold belts, ties, purses, hats and all that jazz. All the ideas I was coming up with involved making holes in our walls. I wasn't sold on that at all. So, leave it to Martha Stewart to come up with something clever.

I found this great idea on her website, she just added hooks to hangers. Genius! What a simple solution. Now we won't have to add holes in the walls! Whoop Whoop

Instead of using clamp hangers as she did, I just used some wood hangers we had handy.

We just put hooks on the bottom. This works great! You just have to be very careful putting the hooks in. We used a super small drill bit to make the holes. You can just use elbow grease, but you will probably get some serious blisters, but it can be done. If your not careful, its easy to crack the rod. The ones where the rod cracked, we just made them like this below and removed the cracked rod. Both styles work fabulous.

Right now I am in the thick of the closet clean out, once I am done I will have to post more pictures!

Dreaming of Summer

Hope your having a very happy Tuesday! How is everyone doing with the time change? Boy, are we sleepy heads over here, seriously! Its never fun to loose an hour of sleep! My little two year old is all out of sorts, hopefully next week he will have his little sleep schedule back on track :)

So I have been dreaming of summer the last few days! I have been working on a cute summer inspired tutorial. It just makes me so excited for my flip flops, sun tan lotion, and the pool! I swear I can even smell coconut in the air. I can't wait to finish! It will have you dreaming of the warm summer sun to! More on that to come next week, stay tuned!

Fabric Headband

          Hello bloggy friends! Here is a fun little fabric headband I made for our little miss, its so super easy. It's the perfect project to help use up some small amounts of scraps laying around. You can whip up a bunch of these beauties in no time!

Here's what you will need...
I used two strips of material both measured 4" wide and 16" long
(I would measure your little ones head though to make sure on size. You want the fabric to wrap around her head and go a little past her ears.)
5"of elastic. I use the 1/4" soft stretch.
2 pieces of rick rack measuring 16" long.

                 Cut your material and iron the seams over. (I iron because I am totally lazy and hate to pin)

Now, I guess I have to let you in on my dirty little secret! I temporailly glue my rick rack down! Every time I use to pin the rick rack it took forever to get it "just so". Then, it always ended up shifting on me when I sewed it down somehow. It wasn't very fun.

So, I figured this good 'ol glue stick would do the trick, and it really does work like magic everytime. If you do this apply the glue stick to the rick rack not the material. It helps hold it better. The glue dries pretty quick, but I found that the scotch glue stick seems to give me a few extra minutes of hold time so I can get it sewn up before it dries. Once you have them temporally glued down, add the other peice of fabric on top of the fabric with the rick rack.

Tuck the ends in and pin those. Then sew up the right and left sides of the headband.

Finally, slide the elastic in the ends that you tucked in and sew the elastic down.

Taa Daa, a new headband for you little miss!

Placemat Purse

I found these darling placemats for $1.00 several months ago. I have wanted to make a purse for my little misses to take to church for her scriptures for sometime now. She has totally fallen in love with purses since her aunt made her a super cute one this winter. Those poor placemats I grabbed have been collecting dust in my fabric basket, so I was so excited today when I had a few extra minutes to make this for her. I didn't realize how quick a project this was, or I would have done this months ago!

Materials I used
2 placemats
Some scrap material for the rosettes
Some bling for the center of the rosettes, or whatever you have handy (buttons, old earings, or jewels)
Glue gun
Felt for the back of the rosettes
Pins to attach the rosettes to the bag

I loved these placemats because they were fairly thick and were different colors on the reverse side.

I folded one of the placemats in half. Sewed up the left and right side. I didn't worry about my seams because I was going to turn this baby inside out.

Here's what it looked like after I flipped it inside out.

For the strap I cut the other placemat the 6 " wide. I didn't take any off the length

Fold the material for the strap over and sew down the edge.

This is what the strap looks like when its been flipped inside out and is done.

Sew the strap to the side seam of the bag. Do that on both sides. I 'attempted' to do this. However, after my needles decided they didn't like the thick fabric as much as I did, they continued to break. I ended up hand sewing the straps on. But, if you don't buy crazy placemats like I did, this part will be a cinch and you won't have to hand sew it!

Then I started working on making the rosettes. There are so many fabulous tutorials out there, you can find out more on how to make them here.

The final product! The little misses loves it, hopefully next time it won't take me months to finish one of her sweet little projects! Even with having to hand sew the strap on, this project was so super easy and quick. Can't wait to see her test it out Sunday!

Under the Table and Dreaming

Car Table

To say my son loves cars is a total understatement! He loves to drive those little things all over the place. However, our walls were sometimes used as a launching pad, and Mama didn't like that one bit! So for Christmas, ~~Ben~~ Santa built a car table for our little Mr. We had the cute little car mat for some time. It got played with on occasion, but now that its on the table, he uses it ALL the time, amazing what a little 'ol table can do. It totally saved my sanity because he never drives the cars along the walls anymore! I think that was not only a gift for him but us also!

The trim along the top edge of the car table/mat is this bendable wood stuff. Not real wood. It's nice beceause it bends along the lines of the table easily when your constructing it. Plus, we loved it becasue its more forgiving if our little Mr. were to fall and hit the edge of the table.

Happy St. Patricks Day

Hard to believe we are almost three months into the year already! Shocking isn't it. I am SO looking forward to St. Patricks Day!! I made up these little dittys to give as gifts to some of my favorite leprachauns!

Then I found these cute mugs at the dollar store and filled them up with almond hershey kisses.

Those kisses are wrapped in gold and oh so yummy! Far to many of them ended up getting "sampled". I wrapped up the cups in cello paper and a bow.

Then I threw this subway art in a frame and waalaa! I feel like it's starting to feel a bit more like St. Pattys Day around here.

Do Not Dry Me!

So, when I do the laundry there are always a few clothes that are not suppose to go in the dryer. Well, I totally forget, every single time, until I am folding all my nicely dried clothes. Then it dawns on me that some of those threads should not have made it in the dryer. Oops! So, I whipped up a little magnet I place right by my washer door on those loads I need my memory jogged a bit! Hope this helps you also!

Anyone else have any fun ideas they use to help them?

Lets Talk Trash...

          Even though I stay at home with our kids, there are days I feel like I actually live in my car. I'm sure you've had a few of those days also :) Needless to say, my car has seen its fair share of wrappers, crumbs, and endless amounts of junk! So, I found a little inspiration here. I took matters into my own hands and figured I could take a stab at making a little 'ol bag, to try and solve our cars trashy problem... Hope this tutorial helps you scoop up every once of trash in your car too!

         There really was no tutorial out there that I saw of exactly what I wanted, so I just started to fly by the seat of my pants, and by golly it turned out :)

First you will need:
2 pieces of  matching fabric for the outer shell measuring 10"x14"
4 pieces of matching fabric for the inner shell measuring 9.5"x 13.5"
2 pieces of heavy duty double sided Inner Fuse measuring: 9"x13"
1 center release buckle (that's what I used and love, but any 'ol buckle you like will do)
2 pieces of material for the straps measuring 3.5"x11"

(Note: We have a big SUV, the sizes above are made to fit a larger car, you may want to scale it down if you have a smaller sized car)

                                      Here's the Inner Fuse I used.

Once all my pieces were cut, I sandwiched the Inner Fuse between two pieces of my inner shell fabric and ironed it like crazy. Iron both sides of the fabric.

Next, go grab the other piece of Inner Fuse and your other two pieces of

inner shell fabric and repeat the above steps.

Now you have two sets of stiff fabric! Hooray! Fold over the top lining to where it meets the Inner Fuse and sew at the top of the shell. Don't worry to much about what this will look like, the trash bag will be covering this, plus we will be turning this inside out later. Do that to both inner shells.

Once the tops of each of the shells are sewn up, you will then lay them on top of each other and sew the remaining 3 sides. Make your seam right against the inner fuse. Again, no worries about how this will look, we are flipping this inside out next!

Then you can flip it to hide the seams. Although, this Inner Fuse is heavy duty and makes it a little hard to do that. So just push it into itself slowly and then...Taa daa, its right side out! Done with the inner shell. It's nice and tough and holds it's shape fabulous. Making it nice to ~~shove~~ place trash in.

Then you will want to hem up the tops of the outer shell.

Next, lay them on top of each other, right side in,
and sew the remaining 3 sides up.

Trim the bottom corners, make sure you don't cut the seam!

Now fold it inside out, and set it aside for now.

Next, grab one of your strips of fabric you will be using

for the straps and fold it over. Sew up the side and bottom.

Do this to both straps.

Then fold them right side out.

Then, place each strap through a side of the buckle. The unsewn side

should be the one closest to the buckle.

Then, fold the unsewn end under, and hem.

Do that to both ends of the buckles. Should look like this when they are done.

Next, you will want to take one side of the buckle and sew it to the side of the otter shell where the seam is.

Do that to both sides

Now that your done with the otter shell, you can put the trash bag inside the inner shell. For the trash bag, I just used a walmart bag and cut off the handles.I always seem to have tons of those handy.

Next, place the inner shell inside the outter one. It should fit nice and snug.This will help to hide the unsightly trash bag, and keep it in place.

Next, if you'd like you can take a needle and thread and run a few stiches through the bottoms of the bag, attaching the two shells. I just ran like 3 large stitches by hand through the center of the bottom. It helps keep both layers always attached, even though they should fit snug. But, if you do this beware-its painful!I'm just say'n, consider yourself warned! I don't know how many times I stabbed myself reaching in the bag to grab the needle as it came through. Not to mention tying a knot from insde the bag. Not easy folks! I swear this was the hardest part , but I am glad I attached them.

Finally, test it out in your car!

Now, the fun part....cleaning out the car!

Art Boxes

I so wish as a Mom I could save every ounce of the kids art work. Truth be told though ,we only save a few really special projects and call it good. The rest, well....some we take photo's of and save on a disk or print the photo for their scrap books. The rest gets recycled. Sad but true!

For the pieces we do save, they go in the kids art boxes which they totally love! The boxes are about 10x13 and 10 inches deep made from wood and stained. We designed them so the lid slides off fairly easily so the kids can always access it. Then, our little artist all went with me and helped pick out their paper for the top of the boxes. I mod podged the paper on. (hint: if you apply the mod podge to the back of the paper instead of the box, it bubbles less, wait for that to dry completely, then apply a light coat of mod podge to the top of the paper.) I used a punch for the kids initials on the top of their box, which also got mod podged on.We have been using these since my son started Kindergarten and they have been a huge help in saving those special little projects and keeping things organzied.

Dollar Store Snowman

To say I love snow is an under statement! I love that the kids get out of school, I love that instantly the calendar gets cleared because of the roads, I love that we all get to stay home and do whatever our heart desires, and do I need to even mention the hot chocolate!

Well, while I was in the dollar store I saw these cute wreaths. I scooped up 3 of them and decided a snowman would be born! Seriously, a wreath for 3.00. Pretty sweet! I got home dug out our white spray paint and wire and went to town. After about 3 coats of spray paint. (Man, I forgot how much these little wreaths soak up) I attached wire to the back of them. Don't forget to add wire to the top also so you have a hook to hang it.

No snowman is ever complete without a scarf! I Threw one on, and there ya have it, a snowman wreath for 3.00.

Whats For Dinner?

I use to get asked all the time..whats for dinner. Well, this has totally helped, and managed to spare my sanity! I made this little ditty about a year and a half ago and framed it. Each week I update our weekly meals, so now the kids know where to look to find out whats for dinner. I use a dry erase marker to write on it, and a cloth or tissue to wipe everything off.

Since I also plan out our meals monthly I needed some place to put our list of monthly meals, so I attached a clear adhesive CD case to the back. Now I always know where my list is!

Sewing Pattern Notebook

So I was starting to feel like I was finding pieces to some of my patterns every where! Arhhh. I knew I had to do something before I lost these little buggers for good. So, I decided the easiest way to organize my patterns was to put them in a 3 ring binder. I ended up putting each pattern in their own frezzer size zip lock bag, labeled the outside of the bag, I attached any pictures from their original packaging to the outside of the zip lock. Then I use a hole punch right on my zip lock. It makes it so easy. The patterns stay in the zip lock and I can pull the whole baggie out when I need to use it. I don't have too many patterns right now, but I imagine it may be helpful to use dividers to separate the different sections of patterns.

Here's the cover I whipped up for my notebook. Hope this download will inspire you to organize your sewing patterns! I'd love to hear how you stash your patterns away.

American Doll Inspiration

So we saw this American Doll crib in a magazine. Pretty cute huh! I thought so, but didn't really like big fat price tag that accompanied it, and knew we could make it for far less. Plus, we could use real wood and it would last longer. So, we took our inspiration from the picture and off we went...

I made a cute little pillow and blanket for these little baby dolls. I think it turned out great, and our nieces loved it! Hopefully their baby dolls will now get a good night sleep!

Man, we love holidays around here, any excuse to party! One of our families favorite traditions on Valentines Day is having what we call Love Potion. I don't even remember where I found this recipe, I think it may have been Family Fun? The kids always look forward to having this at our Valentines dinner. Here is a little recipe card for you to make for your little ones! Hope you love it as much as we do! Enjoy.
