I was initially a little worried about the glitter. I thought it may flake off and leave a mess on the floor. Seriously, who wants to clean up glitter?! Trust me it doesn't come off! Somehow it shines and shimmers without coming off, even after you rub and rub like the dickens to "make sure". The paint department at Lowe's said if we ever repaint that room in the future, all we had to do was just prime it first. No crazy sanding involved at all! Can you imagine the mess! We are so in love with it I can't imagine ever repainting. Although, I am sure a day will come when a pink room with glitter isn't "cool" anymore. Until then I am going to soak up every minute of our little princess while she's still young enough to enjoy this stuff.
We picked up 3 little packets of the paint glitter/crystals. So far the only place I know that carries them is Lowe's. The packaging says you only need one or two per gallon of paint, but since we were painting the room a very light pink we wanted to make sure it would sparkle, so we went with 3 of them for extra shine. So glad we did. I would recommend 3 unless you are using a dark color of paint. (just in case you were wondering... they also sell other colors of the glitter/crystals) We liked the silver best for this project.
We mixed our little hears out. You want to add in a little in at a time, otherwise all the paint crystals will sink to the bottom. Ben used a mixing attachment he has on his drill and it worked wonders. The crystals stay suspended in the paint for sometime. After a few days though, they will sink to the bottom of the paint can. The color we selected for her room was Valspar Apricot Fluff.
The picture doesn't really capture the sparkle effect as much as you see in person. It sparkles a fair amount during the day with all the natural light that comes in her room, but at night when its dark it shimmers SO much. We just love it. It was almost impossible to capture the glitter effect with the camera, but here is a little of what it looks like. It really shines so much more then the picture shows. It does go on very evenly and is such a fun treatment to any girls room!
Then we added a vintage looking chandelier to her room which makes it all the more girlie.
Once we put the last few finishing touches on the room we'll post a room reveal. If you try the paint crystals on a room or project we would love to see it! Happy painting!

This is amazing!!! we are moving into our new home next month and my daughter wants a princess room :) and are planing to do light pink with a purple accent wall, i am thinking on that purple wall i will do this!! should i go with crystals that are the same color as my paint? or do you think silver would look good on a medium shade of purple?? thank you for posting this!!!! and like you said the so flake, so sanding to change will sell the man of the house :)
ReplyDeleteHey Jenna, You'll definetly have to send us pictures once your done, I can't wait to see it. The Lowes by our house didn't have purple glitter, but yours may. The silver would look amazing also. Can't wait to see pictures!! Best of luck on the move!!
DeleteOh I have to do this, I'm fairly certain those crystals are not available in Australia, I'm going to check online...my daughter will love this
ReplyDeletetaking on a glitter wall for my teenage daughters room (pale grey) this weekend. Thanks for the inspiration! You never outgrow glitter! Kelly
ReplyDeleteI think this would be awesome to do on a ceiling with a darker paint, with a nightlight to reflect it would look like stars.
ReplyDeleteDoes it stay on? Or are you finding that it comes off when you touch it? I am looking at painting a piano with glitter paint.
ReplyDeleteDoes the glitter stay on or will it brush off when you touch it? I am looking to paint a piano this way but wouldn't want it to come off constantly.
ReplyDeleteCara,
DeleteYou will love the glitter paint-No it does not come off from the walls. It just sticks to the paint. Its wonderful. Its made to stick to the paint.
thanks for the information! I think I'll be using this soon to paint my kids' rooms.
ReplyDeleteJust what I was looking for. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI saw this glitter at Lowes last weekend and since we're remodeling a bedroom for our four year old Granddaughter, this would be perfect! We're doing it in pink and purple with cream accents. My husband is making her doorway into an arch and it will be split in the middle just like "castle" doors! Can't wait to try this stuff out since I know how well it works now! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI have been looking at this for a long time, but now that I am redoing the rooms, I found out I cannot get the paint crystals in Canada. :( If you have any other ideas, please let me know.
ReplyDeleteHow much did it cost to do the entire room?
ReplyDeleteThe package of sparkle was $6 and change at Lowe's but I mixed some extra fine and ultra fine glitter from kitkraft (.biz.. I think..!) and mixed for about two minutes with a heavy duty paint paddle on my 1/2 inch DeWalt and it worked like a charm. (No, glitter isn't just for little girls! :) <3 Doc (from www.glittermcnabb.com
